Traditionally update of BoonEx.com website for every major Dolphin version release took a couple of extra weeks and delayed the big day. BoonEx Unity upgrades are also often get slowed down due to Dolphin development, so we had to do something about it... and here's the plan: BoonEx.com will be powered by Dolphin. I mean it. This seems to be so obvious, yet we never really came to the decision. Honestly, there's no excuse for not doing it before. BoonEx is a community and BoonEx.com should be powered by community software - by Dolphin. So, with the release of Dolphin 7 you will see BoonEx.com as the first community site powered solely by Hookie, which will do the job for Unity, Trac and even Store. Consider the benefits: - no more parallel development: all our time will go into Dolphin improvement and we would have to make it great. - non-stop live testing by an active community with about 50,000 members. - real-life working demo - our full commitment to make Dolphin fast, secure, usable and effective... or we're out of business. Hookie would need a few extra features to make it up to the task, but they are already being developed for the default package. So, the idea is to run BoonEx on an unmodified Dolphin. So, expect a few extra modules, such as Store, Files, Wiki, Feedback and some functionality for order tracking. These additions are believed to SAVE time before release, since we'd be able to use the entire BoonEx team for their development, while BoonEx.com has been managed by a smaller group and would still have to updated before Hookie is out. The timeline I posted before is likely to be changed, but we'll keep you informed. For now we plan to publish a new Alpha build every 3-4 days and the next one should be out on Friday. We'll also update Trac this week to display current progress. Stay tuned.

      ich finds klasse.
    • Hookie Alpha Build 13

We've just updated the demo at demozzz.com/dolphin7a/. We had to add a few extra features to the initial plan (store, shopping cart, better membership levels, etc), so we'll be rolling a few more Alpha builds before going on to Beta stage. This particular update may not look significant, but some progress can be well seen:

      - user status: user can be online, offline, away, busy

      - status message: the Twitter/Facebook latest craze

      - media albums made some progress

      - floating member menu improved (any suggestions on this one are very welcome, since it's a new toy)

      - some work with titles and title zones

      - cache for templates

      - google maps profiles seatch

      - Sites module is almost in (think about making something like Digg/Pligg)

      - bug-fixing and smaller changes.

The next build is planned to bring more consistency and stability, as well as SEO and performance improvements. And in about 2 weeks I hope we'll get the source code out for download.

We hear complaints about performance/speed. Here's a thing. Dolphin 7 is fast. It should be way faster than D6, but so far we still have buggy queries/code here and there.

Anyway, this time we'll be testing and fixing and improving until it is really smooth and stable. No matter how much time/money it takes Dolphin 7 will be remembered as an absolutely reliable product.

    • It's a really mid-term build, which may seem like it brakes more than it adds, but we have to test some things (this time it's mostly performance-related).

So, I'd recommend spending your weekend with your loved ones, on a beach or just outdoors. We'll show a much more exciting update next week.

Thank you for your bug reports and feature suggestions. Every one of them is filed and considered.

BTW, Julia and I are in San Diego now for 1 day. Anyone willing to catch up, drop me an email (uno@boonex.com).
